Mitch Altman @ Codebits

After last year's success, Mitch Altman, hacker and inventor, is coming back to Codebits.

He is perhaps best known for co-founding 3ware, his pioneering work in Virtual Reality at VPL Research and inventing TV-B-Gone.

At Codebits, Mitch is going to give two talks:

Title: The Hackerspace movement

Abstract: "Hacker spaces have been around for years. But something is afoot! In the past year hundreds of new hackerspaces have been popping up all over our planet -- and established hackerspaces have become way more popular. There is even an international organization called Hackerspaces.org that exists to promote the continuation and formation of hacker spaces everywhere. Coinciding with this unprecedented movement is a growing popularity of hacker conferences, Maker Faires, Dorkbots, crafting groups, other geeky groups. What is going on here? And how can you benefit? Mitch Altman (co-founder of Noisebridge, a thriving hackerspace in San Francisco) will talk about his experiences and outlooks, including how to start your own hacker space where you live."

and...

Title: Make A Living Doing What You Love: How to Bring Your Project From Idea To Reality

Abstract: "Mitch Altman has brought his personal pet projects (including TV-B-Gone universal remote controls) from idea to reality, and is fortunate to make a living doing what he loves. Mitch will outline the practicle steps he took to take his projects from a mere idea, through the steps of research, development, manufacture, sales and distribution, leading, finally, to collecting checks while in the comfort of his home (and while traveling the world). This talk will show the manufacturing process Mitch uses in China. Mitch recently organized a trip to China for Noisebridge, the hackerspace he co-founded in San Francisco -- this talk will include photos of manufacturing process from this trip."

Mitch is also going to be present all three days with a lot of material to help you with (and that even includes soldering irons).

You know the drill: bring your Arduinos and your ideas. He's also going to bring several other kits with him.
